On 18th October 2021, my life came to a complete standstill. I lost my Mother. I felt a piece of me was snatched and sent very very very far away.
The Handrafters was our vision and we enjoyed working together. All the painting, embroidery and stitching skills I am proud of now I owe to my Mother and Grandmother who were both excellent at these skills. I guess I must have inborn talent!
Mother was my co-founder, my designer, my critic - all in one. If something was not perfect, she would make me start again. We would spend hours buying fabrics and picking the best embellishments. Mom was very fond of drawing and would sketch on anything - address books, magazines, anything she could get her hands on. I still continue to use her designs in my work.
As I fondly say, my co-worker may have gone but her skills still remain in me and Mom still remains part of The Handrafters.
To find solace, I created this embroidered heart with a missing piece. I hope wherever you are Mom, you are at peace. We love you and will always miss you.
